SUMMER RIDING DAY PROGRAM for KIDS

Ages 8 - 13
(younger at discretion of the farm)

Each day at camp, we ride, either in the ring or on the wooded trails. Riding instruction is age appropriate and tailored to the prior riding experience of each camper. More experienced riders may work on jumping, for example, while newcomers to the sport practice walking and trotting on the longe line. Campers learn how to take good care of their equine partners by getting horses ready for lessons and learning about grooming, feeding, care of equipment, stall cleaning, horse anatomy, and health.

For variety, we may practice bareback riding, vaulting (a gymnastic activity on a moving horse) and games like "red light, green light" on horseback. Weather permitting, we swim and play in the pool. At the end of the week, campers put on a horse show for parents and friends.

The atmosphere at Frog Hollow Farm camp is supportive and non-competitive. Frog Hollow Farm camp is about having fun with horses safely and knowledgeably. Enrollment is limited to no more than 10 campers per session, to allow for careful supervision and individual attention.

2009 riding weeks begin Monday, July 27th, and continue through August. Attend one week or more. This year, we will offer a half-day option at a reduced rate. Watch this page for more information.

For Riding:
Riding Pants: Jodphurs, britches, riding sweats, or riding jeans. Pants meant for riding are made without an inside seam, and are much more comfortable for riding than regular jeans or long pants.
Riding Boots: Paddock boots or high boots made of leather or synthetic. Rubber boots are not recommended as they are hot and very uncomfortable.
Fitted shirts: The too-big look is not acceptable for riding classes because it is too hard to judge riding position.
Helmet: ASTM/SEI approved riding helmet - No Exceptions. No one rides without a helmet. That means no one.

LABEL EVERYTHING.
